Playmates Toys produced Toxic Crusaders in 1991 for the cartoon based on Troma's cult film The Toxic Avenger. Toxie and his team of mutated misfits fought pollution-loving aliens from planet Smogula, and the grotesque, brightly colored figures echoed the style of Playmates' Ninja Turtles line.
